Vegas and Workouts

Sean's going to kill me for this but I just can't resist.

Back here I posted a picture of Sean and I. His response was "thanks for posting the picture of me with my double chin". So, in case you had any doubt that guys can be self-conscious about things, here you go:

You're welcome.

I've never been to Vegas. I'm not even sure that I ever really cared about going to Vegas. BUT two of our good friends are getting hitched in Vegas this July! When Sean and I celebrated our first anniversary, we did so with the thought of having a small vacation over our actual anniversary and a big vacation later on in the summer. However, with a Vegas trip in there, we just couldn't justify spending a ton of money and taking a week off work in June and then spending a ton of money and taking off several days in July.

Solution? We're going to Vegas early! And I'm SO excited! I don't know when my feelings about Vegas changed (still not a big gambler), but I'm stoked about going!

Onto week 3 of marathon training :)

I suddenly can't remember where I saved my cool PDF of my workouts, so this is going to have to do:

Planned miles for the week: 18

Monday: Rest/Cross-training day
Tuesday: 3 miles @ 10:01 min/pace
Wednesday: Rest/Cross-training day
Thursday: 5 mile tempo run with 3 miles @ 8:27 min/pace
Friday: Rest/Cross-training day
Saturday: Rest/Cross-training day
Sunday: 10 miles @ 10:01 min/pace

Yesterday on my weekly trip to Target I picked up this:

I think I'll do reviews of it like with her Ripped in Thirty (you can find week 1 here, week 2 here, week 3 here, and week 4 will be coming this week). But since this has you doing 3 weeks at level 1 and then 3 weeks at level 2, I'll just recap them at the end of each 3 week period. Maybe I'll have a 6 pack after.

The 10 miles this weekend will be interesting considering I'm running a 10k on Saturday. I'm thinking that I'll do the 10k and then do the remaining 3+ sometime Saturday versus trying to do the 10k Saturday and then the full 10 Sunday. Decisions, decisions...

Hope you all have a good Monday!

Do you try and stick to training plans when you have them? I try and stick to them just because I like having things pre-planned out. But I definitely can be flexible if I need to!

What do you do when you have a long run scheduled that coincides with a shorter race run?

  1. Hey! You're going to LOVE Vegas. That is where Scott and I went for our Honeymoon. Bring your running shoes too because there are a lot of runners that run the Strip!

I had a long run(8miles)scheduled this weekend along with a 5K and I thought I'd run the 5K on Saturday and just move my long run to Sunday. For me at least, this turned out to be a terrible idea. My legs felt like 50 pounds weights when I tried to run on Sunday. I think I would have been better off just running the last 5 miles after the 5K on Saturday.

  2. I'm super jealous you're going to Vegas. We went last September when we drove out to California but just for a night. I really want to go back and really experience it!

I'm the same as you with training plans (or any plans for that matter). I like to have a plan but can adjust if need be.

  3. LOVE Las Vegas. I'm going twice more this summer. ;-)

I definitely have to have a training plan when I'm running. I'm totally Type-A, have all of my runs planned on the calendar, etc.

  4. Poor Sean lol. JJ didn't like a pic of him doing the dishes I posted one time! Sooo exciting about Vegas! I want to go just to see what all the hype is about. I just busted that Jillian DVD out on Saturday. I like it, but I haven't tried level 2 yet because I haven't done it consistently enough.

  5. P.S. I say you do the 10k, then the 5 mile easy run Sunday and we can do the 10 together the next week :-)

  6. If I have a long run on a shorter race day, I'll do this: a couple of miles slow as a warm up, run the race, and then slow cool down miles afterwards!
    :)

  10. Because I'm an idiot and I published too early. It's up and running again. I wasn't done editing and hit "publish" instead of "preview" and when I realized I took it down and continued editing and then republished when I was done :)
